The City today received the No Board Report from the Ministry of Labour, which sets the legal strike/lockout deadline for TCEU Local 416 – CUPE, the union representing City outside workers, at 12:01 a.m. on February 27, 2020.
The City and Local 416 have been in collective bargaining for more than four months, including five days of negotiations with the assistance of a provincially appointed conciliation officer. Despite our best efforts to reach an agreement that is fair to our valued employees and affordable for the residents and taxpayers of the city, we have been unable to do so.
While the parties have reached agreement on a number of issues, a number of challenging issues remain outstanding including:
• Job security
• Parental leave
• Benefits
• Wages
The City of Toronto remains committed to negotiating a collective agreement that is fair and affordable and will continue to engage with the union to achieve that goal.
On February 6, 2020, Local 79 filed for conciliation. The City looks forward to working with the provincially appointed conciliator to assist us in reaching a negotiated settlement with Local 79.
In the event of a labour disruption, the City has a contingency plan in place, which will be released in the coming days.
