Standalone mechanical permit (MSA) for installation of a Geothermal System.

Building Permit

All drawings to be drawn on standardized sized sheets, drawn to scale, fully dimensioned, signed and dated.

If drawings were prepared by a qualified designer (as defined under Div. C, Part 3, Section 3.2 of the Ontario Building Code), drawings must include the designer’s name, registration number, qualification identification number, signature, and stamp/statement that the person has reviewed and taken responsibility for the design activities.

All drawings, reports, and forms, including the completed Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish, must be provided in a PDF format.

The following documents are required as part of your submission package.

Document Name and Description
Site Plan showing boreholes locations including separation and building footprint.
Geothermal Technical specifications.
Borehole schedule showing number of boreholes and each borehole's depth.
Thermal Conductivity Report (if available).
Toronto Regional Conservation Authority (TRCA) clearance requirement where applicable
Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) approval where applicable
Mechanical drawings showing piping schematic, borehole elevation and piping detail.
Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks environmental compliance approval to be provided by the geothermal installation contractor (Driller ECA)

In addition, where the geothermal ground loop shows a connection to a building, the drawings shall include a note referencing the need to submit a coordinated design calculation that aligns with the building HVAC system permit for the property which it is serves,

 

The following forms are required as part of your submission package.

Form Name Description
Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish Building permit application form required for all submissions. The planned drilling start date must be included as part of the work description.
Commitment to General Reviews by Engineer or Architect Required for all buildings where professional design and field review is required by the Ontario Building Code. This Commitment form must be signed by the owner or agent and the professional architect, engineer, or consultant.
Earth Energy Systems Declaration Form Required when applying for Earth Energy Systems such as open loop or closed loop geothermal systems.
