In addition to providing access to government-held information, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act contains a privacy scheme with standards for the collection, use, disclosure, retention and destruction of personal information held by governments.

Please write to the Corporate Access and Privacy Office first if you have reason to believe that the City has breached your privacy.

Our office will investigate and respond to your complaint on a confidential basis.

You also have the right to complain formally about a privacy breach to the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario.

Upon receipt of a complaint, the Commissioner assigns a compliance investigator to review the facts of the complaint and determine if the City has complied with the privacy provisions of the Act.
