Joseph Sagaj

Joseph SagajJoseph Sagaj is an Ojibwe from a remote community in Northern Ontario. He graduated in Fine Arts at the Ontario College of Art & Design in 1985 and has since had numerous private and public commissions.

In 1992, The Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples selected Joseph's logo as a winning design, using it in all their publications. Some of Sagaj's logo designs include Miziwe, Biik, Anishnawbe Health Toronto, and Samson Cree Nation in Alberta, Ontario Native Affairs Secretariat and recently the Thunderbird Centre in Toronto.

He has created mural projects for OFIFC on Front Street, Anishnawbe Health, Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training, INAC (Indian & Northern Affairs Canada) in Edmonton, and Neskantaga First Nation's School in Northern Ontario. He was also commissioned to design and illustrate the first three Toronto International Pow WowArtwork by Joseph Sagaj Posters at the CNE and the SkyDome, now known as Roger's Centre.

Joseph Sagaj's latest work is the design for City Hall's First Nation Celebration. It depicts symbols from the Inuit, Métis and the First Nation's communities in an urban environment. The circle of unity represents the four directions, four races of the yellow, red, black, and white.
