The Disability Issues Committee advises City Council on the elimination of barriers faced by people with disabilities and liaises with external bodies to participation in public life and to the achievement of social, cultural and economic well-being of people with disabilities.
A primary role of the committee is to advise City Council about the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of the annual Accessibility Plan, as required by the Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Councillor A.A. Heaps is the Chair of the Disability Issues Committee. The Committee's Terms of Reference was adopted by City Council on October 22 and 23, 2007.
