Get started with a Home Energy Assessment
The first and most important step to learn how you can conserve energy and save money is to conduct a Home Energy Assessment.
Assessments are completed by Energy Advisors certified by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).
Follow the recommendations
Your Energy Advisor will conduct a series of tests to create a personalized Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report for your home. This report will recommended a number of improvements. Suggestions may include upgrades to your insulation, windows, doors, or heating and cooling systems, plus ways to conserve water.
Grant Programs
NRCan stopped accepting new registrations into the federal grant program on January 28, 2012. For more information, visit ecoENERGY Retrofit-Homes.
Look into green mortgage options
If you’re buying a new home or refinancing an existing mortgage, be sure to ask your bank if they offer a Green Mortgage.
You may also get a partial refund on your mortgage loan insurance if you purchase an energy efficient home or renovate your current home. Learn more from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) about Green Homes and Mortgages. (PDF)
