Green Bins are located at all Dog Off-Leash areas in Toronto parks and some additional locations

  • Toronto residents, especially dog owners and walkers are asked to put dog poop in Green Bins in any plastic bag or paper bag, dog poop must not be placed loose in bins
  • Bags do not have to be compostable or biodegradable
  • All organic waste can go in the Green Bins
  • In parks that do not have a Green Bin, residents should dispose of dog poop and other organic waste in garbage bins or take it home and place it in the Green Bin (organics)
  • Organic waste should not be put in recycling (Blue Bins).

Disposal of organic waste in a park without a green bin

Organic waste, including dog waste, food scraps and soiled napkins should go in the Green Bin. However, if there is no Green Bin available, they should be put in the garbage or taken home. Organic waste should never go in the Blue Bin (recycling).

Requests for Green Bins in a park

We are now accepting requests for green bins in parks city wide.  Our focus is on providing green bins to capture pet waste.  We are evaluating the feasibility of requests and will be adding bins at a small number of waste stations.  New locations will be closely monitored to determine their continued feasibility.

Compostable / Biodegradable bags

Any bag may be used to dispose of dog poop and other organics in Toronto's Green Bin program. In the City's Green Bin program anything that behaves like a plastic, regardless of what it is made of, is removed and sent to landfill.
