A School Safety Zone is a designated stretch of roadway which includes school safety zone signs and a variety of measures such as watch your speed signs, improved pavement makings, flashing beacons, among other possible improvements.
Since approval of the Vision Zero Road Safety Plan in 2016 the rate of implementation of school safety zones has been accelerated twice, leading up to the most recent commitment of completing 80 school zones per year. As of 2025, all public elementary and secondary schools and designated private schools in the city have been designed and are expected to be installed in 2026.
Please Note: The graph below shows the number of completed School Safety Zones. Completed school zones may be missing certain pavement markings. These pavement markings, if not finished before the end of the year, will be prioritized as part of the following years program.
