A School Safety Zone is a designated stretch of roadway which includes school safety zone signs and a variety of measures such as watch your speed signs, improved pavement makings, flashing beacons, among other possible improvements.

Since approval of the Vision Zero Road Safety Plan in 2016 rate of implementation of school safety zones has been accelerated twice, leading up to the most recent commitment of completing 80 school zones per year and the ultimate goal of implementing enhanced pavement markings and signage to all public elementary and secondary schools in the city.

Please Note: The graph below shows the number of SCHOOLS that have received school safety zone measures. Completed school zones may be missing certain pavement markings. These pavement markings, if not finished before the end of the year, will be prioritized as part of the following years program.
