Micromobility devices, such as non-electric skateboards, roller skates, in-line skates, electric skateboards, electric unicycles, one-wheel devices and hoverboards, are subject to different rules depending on where they are used and the type of device. Skateboards may be used on sidewalks unless otherwise restricted or prohibited by signage.
Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, skateboards are not permitted on City streets with vehicles.
Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 950, also does not permit skateboards to be used on the streets with vehicles where a sidewalk is provided, except when crossing the street. When crossing, people using skateboards have the same rights and responsibilities as pedestrians.
Skateboards may be used in City parks unless signs restrict or prohibit their use.
While using a skateboard in a park, you must not:

Roller skates and in-line skates may be used on the sidewalk (unless otherwise restricted or prohibited by signage) but are not permitted on the street except when crossing. When crossing, people using these devices have the same rights and responsibilities as pedestrians.
People using roller skates or in-line skates on a street without sidewalks are considered pedestrians and must travel on the left side of the street, facing oncoming traffic and as close to the edge of the street as possible.
Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, roller skates and in-line skates are not permitted on City streets with vehicles..
Roller skates and in-line skates are not permitted in bicycle lanes, which are reserved for bicycles.

Electric unicycles, electric skateboards, electric one-wheel devices or hoverboards are not permitted on sidewalks.
Under Ontario's Highway Traffic Act, Electric unicycles, electric skateboards, electric one-wheel devices or hoverboards are not defined as a vehicle and are not permitted on City streets because they are not regulated in Ontario through the Highway Traffic Act.
Electric unicycles, electric skateboards, electric one-wheel devices or hoverboards may only be used on private property.
Toronto Police Service is responsible for enforcing the rules governing the use of micromobility devices on City streets.
