Recreation courts, ice rinks, fire pits, gymnasiums, sports fields or stadiums can be booked online. Some facilities are only available in the summer and are unavailable in the winter.

Ice rinks can be booked between 14 days and two days before the event date. Sports facilities can be booked between 14 days and three days before the event date. Some tennis courts can be booked on the same day and up to seven days before.

Before You Start

Facilities you can book online:

  • bake ovens
  • fire pits
  • ice rinks for team sports
  • picnic sites
  • skating time
  • sport facilities (fields and diamonds) and tennis/pickleball courts

All online bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable. Print and/or save your receipt before completing your transaction.

    Remember to bring your confirmation with you to the facility on the date of your booking!

    The following activities in gymnasiums can be booked online:

    • basketball
    • dance practice
    • floor hockey
    • handball
    • soccer

    Other activities, including birthday parties, must be booked with community centre staff.

    Conditions of Use

    Gymnasium time is booked in one-hour increments. Permit holders may access the gymnasium only during the times listed on their permit.

    The permit holder must check in with front desk staff, provide proof of permit and be present for the duration of the permit.

    The booking is non-transferable.

    Equipment

    Equipment rentals are not available. Permit holders are responsible for bringing their own equipment (e.g. basketballs, soccer balls and nets). Hard balls, like cricket balls and baseballs, are not allowed. Equipment must be non-marking.

    Cancellation

    Permits booked online cannot be refunded unless a three-week written notice is given to community centre staff. This includes requests for rescheduling.

    Insurance

    Insurance will be charged online based on the number of attendees.

    Customers and groups who have existing general liability insurance with the City of Toronto must process permit bookings directly through centre staff.

    Ice time is booked in one-hour increments which includes:

    • 50 minutes of permit time
    • 10 minutes for the maintenance of the ice

    Online ice bookings cannot be used to replace regular seasonal bookings.

    Individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

    Dressing rooms

    Some facilities have dressing rooms. Dressing rooms are available up to 30 minutes before the booked time and must be vacated no later than 30 minutes after the booked time.

    Scarborough Arenas require participants to bring their own locks.

    Safety

    No one is allowed on the ice surface during the operation of the ice surfacing machine.

    The City highly recommends the use of CSA-approved helmets for all players/skaters while on the ice.

    For bookings by private individuals or companies, such as birthday parties and special events, all participants, regardless of age, are required to wear CSA-approved hockey helmets while playing or supervising hockey on the ice.

    Cancellations

    The City reserves the right to cancel bookings when they are considered to be used for profit or gain orĀ in the place of regular ice bookings.

    Special Events

    Groups who wish to host a special event with food, snacks or sponsorship must contact our office at 416-396-7378. This type of permit is not considered an online booking.

    Ice Insurance

    Private individuals and groups will require insurance. Fees will automatically include a minimum $2 million liability insurance coverage.

    Organizations will need to provide Client Services staff with proof of insurance coverage and additional details before booking.

    Booking Types

    There are two types of bookings.

    Match Play

    Match Play is for individuals or small groups of less than 10 people looking to book a tennis and pickleball court, and are not offering services for profit or gain. Examples of Match Play include:

    • singles/doubles matches
    • birthday parties

    Organizations

    Organizations is for private businesses and/or organizations offering services for profit or gain.

    It is required to provide proof of $2 million liability insurance coverage before booking.

    Need “organization account log-in” to book. Contact Client Services to set up this account type.

    Tennis and Pickleball Facilities Insurance

    Private individuals and groups will require insurance. Fees will automatically include a minimum $2 million liability insurance coverage.

    Organizations will need to contact a Client Services representative to provide proof of insurance and additional details in advance of booking.

    Picnic Site Bookings

    Individuals and/or groups booking a picnic site are limited to reserving up to two sites per event date.

    A maximum of 200 participants per site are allowed. Groups of more than 200 participants must contact Client Services at 416-396-7378.

    Keep parks clean and prevent damage. Balloons, decorations, signs or banners must not to be tied to trees.

    If using a propane BBQ, it must be set at least 10 feet from any combustible structures, objects, vegetation and overhanging branches of trees.

    If your booking includes fire pit use, you will be required to review and follow the City of Toronto Open Air Burning policy.

    Fire Pit Bookings

    Individuals and/or groups booking a fire pit are limited to reserving a maximum of one fire pit per event date.

    A maximum of 25 participants per site are allowed at most sites. Some sites allow a maximum of 50 participants.

    If you are an individual booking a fire pit, an insurance fee will apply.

    If you are an organization booking a fire pit, you must provide proof of insurance before you book.

    Open-air fires

    Open-air fire hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. only, unless otherwise posted.

    The Ontario Fire Code and the City of Toronto Parks Bylaw prohibit all open-air burning. Exceptions must be approved by the Director of Parks and the Chief Fire Official; Subject to the provisions of Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 608, Parks, Section 10, Campfires and barbecues.

    Open-air fires must:

    • Be contained within non-combustible containers or pits specifically designed and designated for open-air fires, and sparks and ash must be controlled within the container.
    • Use commercially produced charcoal, briquette or clean, dry seasoned wood for burning.
    • Be conducted in such a manner as to preclude the escape from the fire of combustible solids such as sparks and ash.

    Fuel

    The dimensions of the fuel being burnt must not be greater than the size of the container or fire pit. Fuel must be totally confined to the container or pit at all times.

    A maximum fuel volume of 0.61 metres by 0.61 metres by 0.61 metres height (two feet by two feet by two feet), that is set and maintained solely for the purpose of cooking food, providing warmth or recreational enjoyment and where an effective extinguishing agent of sufficient size and with the capability of extinguishing the fire must be immediately available.

    Prohibited burn materials include:

    • Household waste
    • Construction waste
    • Rubber or rubber products
    • Plastic or plastic products
    • Waste petroleum products
    • Pressure-treated wood
    • Creosote-treated wood
    • Any material or materials which are prohibited by the Environmental Protection Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter E.19, as amended

    Open-air Burn Sites

    The open-air burn must be constructed on a non-combustible surface.

    The site of the open-air burn must be confined to non-combustible containers or a pit constructed of bare rock, sand or mineral soil.

    For Designated Open Air Burn site(s), the site is set at least 6.08 metres (20 feet) from any combustible structures or objects and the space above the burn is at least 6.08 metres (20 feet) from vegetation and the overhanging tree branches.

    For Non-Designated Open Air Burn site(s), the site is set at least 3.04 metres (10 feet) from any combustible structures or objects and the space above the burn is at least 3.04 metres (10 feet) from vegetation and the overhanging tree branches.

    Safety

    All open-air fires must:

    • Have an immediately available and effective extinguishing agent of sufficient size.
    • Be attended, controlled and supervised by an adult at all times.
    • Be completely extinguished before the open-air burn site is vacated.

    Open-air fires are not permitted when:

    • A smog alert has been declared
    • Wind speed exceeds 25 kilometres per hour
    • Rain or fog is present
    • Weather conditions prevent the ready dispersion of smoke
