CF’s Award Winning Sustainability Program, Green at Work®, established in 2008 and has resulted in 42 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions

CF’s leading national environmental sustainability program, Green at Work®, integrates sustainability into building operations and maintenance. Since its establishment in 2008, this program has resulted in a 42 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a total savings of $52 million in energy and water costs.

Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) LEED and Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) BEST Certifications at 100 per cent of Toronto properties

One hundred per cent of all managed Toronto properties are either BOMA BEST or LEED certified properties: 19 properties are BOMA BEST certified and 16 office properties are LEED certified. TDC Complex, Maple Leaf Square, and YCC Complex are also Rick Hansen certified, a testament to CF’s ongoing efforts to create more accessible spaces to better serve building occupants, shoppers, and communities.

Technology Drives Excellence & Reduces Footprint

In 2016, CF launched the Energy Smart Operations program, utilizing smart buildings technology, to enable real-time energy management, monitoring, and reporting as well as providing fault detection, energy visualization and analytics.

Additionally, CF was among the first companies to partner with Enwave and connect to their Enwave Deep Lake Water Cooling network at TD Centre in 2005. Several other Toronto properties, like Toronto Eaton Centre and Simcoe Place, are now also connected, drawing cold water from Lake Ontario to cool the building complex and offset overall energy consumption.

National Electric Vehicle Charging Program including FLO and Tesla Superchargers

In April 2017, CF announced the launch of its national electric vehicle (EV) charging program, building on CF’s support for the transition to a low-carbon economy in Canada.

In 2018, CF completed its first phase with FLO, the Canadian leader in access to EV charging, and converted the majority of our chargers to the FLO network. Many of the level 3 “fast chargers” at CF’s properties were the first of their kind in their regions.

In addition to the FLO chargers, CF now has Tesla Superchargers at eight of our shopping centers across Canada, totaling 343 charging stations, with expansion planned at additional CF sites.

First existing building in North America to achieve WELL Certification

In 2017, TD Centre’s 222 Bay Street tower became North America’s first existing building to achieve the prestigious WELL Building Standard™ certification (Gold – Core and Shell). As of 2021, all six of TD Centre’s towers are WELL Health-Safety certified, making it one of the largest office complexes in Canada to earn this new designation. 16 York, YCC Complex, RBC, and Simcoe Place are also WELL Health-Safety certified.

Amongst the first in Canada to be Energy Star Certified

Toronto’s Yonge Corporate Centre and Simcoe Place were amongst the first buildings in Canada to receive ENERGY STAR Certification, which recognizes superior energy performance. All CF offices and the entire Ontario retail portfolio now have an Energy Star profile.
