The City's museum boards are special purpose advisory bodies that provide advice with respect to the City's community museums. These advisory bodies are governed by the Toronto Municipal Code, Chapter 103, Heritage (PDF).
Responsibilities
The Toronto Historical Museum Board acts as a co-ordinating body, providing advice on broad museum issues and general museum policies to the community museum advisory boards.
There are 8 separate community museum boards that provide advice to the City on matters relating to the operation, priorities and care of the following premises:
- Collections Conservation and Shared Resources Board
(98 Atlantic Avenue)
- Fort York National Historic Site
- Gibson House/Zion Schoolhouse
- Montgomery's Inn
- Scarborough Historical Museum
- Spadina/Mackenzie House/Colborne Lodge
- Todmorden Mills Museum
- York Museum
Term of office
Four years coincident with the term of Council.
Composition
The composition varies for each museum board, and is set out in Schedule A to Chapter 103 of the Toronto Municipal Code.
Meetings
The museum advisory boards meet approximately six times a year or as required.
