Sony Centre for the Performing Arts
Board of Directors (formerly Hummingbird Centre)
A key objective of the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts (formerly Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts) is to inspire Toronto's diverse communities with innovative and unique international programming and activities that reflect and celebrate the diversity that is Toronto. The Sony Centre is Canada's largest soft-seat theatre with over 3,000 seats.
Board responsibilities
The mandate of the board of directors is to operate, manage and maintain the Centre as a theatre and auditorium and as a centre for meetings, receptions and displays, including the promotion, production or presentation of the performing arts, including theatrical, dramatic, musical and artistic works.
The board is responsible for supervising the business and affairs of the Centre, and for the long-term maintenance of the physical plant and equipment.
Term of office
Four years.
Composition
As amended by City Council at its meeting held on January 15 and 16, 2013 in its consideration of the City's 2013 Capital and Operating Budgets (Item EX27.1, Decision 336), the Board consists of 13 members:
- the Mayor or a designate appointed by the Mayor
- 3 members of Council appointed by City Council
- 8 citizen members
- the Chief Financial Officer or his/her designate as a non-voting member.
Meetings
The board usually meets monthly at the Sony Centre.
