Short Histories of Toronto
Don't miss these two exhibits featured on the Virtual Museum of Canada:

Bendale: About Place

About Place   This project invokes the rich history of Bendale, a neighbourhood located in Toronto's northeast end and the site of Scarborough's first farm fields. Through the voices, images and documents of the community, this exhibit details Bendale's remarkable transformation from rural crossroads to multicultural suburban centre.

Virtual Museum - Bendale: About Place

Curated by Madelaine Callaghan, Curator, Scarborough Historical Museum.

Twentieth-Century Todmorden: A Community in the Don
Valley Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre

Todmorden   This virtual exhibit captures some of the recollections of those who lived, worked and played in the Valley.

Twentieth Century Todmorden: A Community in the Don Valley is not a comprehensive record but reflects the voices of long-time residents as well as documents and photographs collected by the Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre, now operated by the City of Toronto.

The History of the Old Military Burial Ground

An old and nearly forgotten cemetery, located a few blocks northeast of Fort York, is the final resting place for some of Toronto's founding citizens. Victoria Memorial Square is home to the city's first military cemetery and is1 one of its earliest public parks. Find out more.

  Romance Underfoot
Oriental Rugs in Toronto, 1880-1940

One of the most common decorative features in Toronto homes between about 1880 and 1940 was the Oriental carpet. Spadina, Toronto's grand historic house museum, displays an interesting collection of such carpets. Our web exhibit, Romance Underfoot, explores these rugs and their place within the larger context of Torontonians' fascination with these colourful and popular artefacts. Find out more

  Textures of a Lost Toronto
John Howard's Documentary Art & Drawings 1830s-80s
