FABLED CITY: Part of the Toronto Festival of Storytelling
No Irish Need Apply with Storyteller Nan Brien
Friday, March 26, 8 p.m.

In the summer of 1847, 38,000 Irish immigrants passed through Toronto, a city of 20,000. Fleeing disease, poverty, the failure of the potato crop and government indifference, thousands died on “Coffin” ships on the journey. 863 survived the trip only to die in Toronto of typhus. A horror of mammoth proportions, news of the famine filled the minds of Canadians everywhere. That summer, Innkeeper Thomas Montgomery hosted a benefit to aid the Irish and Scots forced to leave their land. Join storyteller Nan Brien, and historical music ensemble Gin Lane as they recreate that night 163 years later in the very same room at Montgomery’s Inn.
Audience: Adult.
Pre-registration is required. $20 plus applicable taxes. Includes period refreshments.
