Life at Colborne Lodge: Early Years in High Park
In partnership with Toronto Public Library and the Sun Life Financial Museums + Arts Pass program, Colborne Lodge is pleased to offer a special program at two High Park area libraries.
Professional storyteller Harriet Xanthakos, from Colborne Lodge museum, will perform an interactive story of the lives of John and Jemima Howard, the19th-century owners of Colborne Lodge. She'll begin with their voyage from England to Canada in 1832 and keep you enthralled until their journey ends at Colborne Lodge in High Park. Admission is free.

Christmas in the Park
Begins Saturday, November 21 (ends January 3) - Tuesdays to Sundays, Noon to 4 p.m.
Discover the magic of Christmas in the winter wonderland surroundings of High Park and enjoy a tour of Colborne Lodge, the picturesque home of the founders of High Park, which is decorated for a Victorian Christmas. You will discover festive traditions, decorations and foods enjoyed during the 19th-century in Toronto. Toast the season with a glass of hot mulled cider by the wood stove and nibble on special holiday treats.

Christmas Wreath-Making Workshops

Start your Christmas preparations by creating your very own Christmas wreath using nature’s bounty. This 2 hour workshop is now a popular pre-Christmas get-together activity for groups of friends and families. Set in picturesque High Park, the house offers a cozy historic ambience for this seasonal craft. A tour of the decorated parts of the house and light refreshments are included.

NEW! Adult and Child Wreath-Making Workshop (Ages 7 to 10)
Sunday, November 29 at 10 a.m.
Adults and children make a Christmas wreath together to take home. This 2-hour workshop is a unique opportunity to kick off the season doing a special activity together in the cozy historic ambience of Colborne Lodge’s 19th-century kitchen. A tour of the festively decorated parts of the house and light refreshments are included. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required. $37.50 plus applicable taxes for one adult and one child.
$10 plus applicable taxes for an additional child, limited availability for a second child per adult.

Remembrance Day Ceremony
Wednesday, November 11 - 10:45 a.m.
Fort York and the Toronto Chapter of the IODE are proud to present the annual Remembrance Day Service at the Strachan Avenue Military Cemetery, just west of Historic Fort York. The service will feature military costumed staff from Historic Fort York and standard-bearers from the IODE. A processional parade, led by fife and drum, will gather at Fort York’s parking lot at 10:45 a.m. and make its way to the cemetery a short distance away. This unique and solemn service honours soldiers from the Toronto Garrison who fell in the War of 1812, the Rebellion Crises, the Crimean War, the Northwest Rebellion, the South African War, the two World Wars, the Korean War and recent conflicts. Admission to the fort is free until noon.

Holiday Season Tours at Gibson House

Escape from the hustle and bustle while you enjoy a sample of mulled cider and a biscuit in the warmth of the historic kitchen. Discover the story of how families celebrated Christmas in 19th-century Toronto as you tour the Mackenzie home dressed in greenery for the holidays.

Write a Letter to Santa Claus
Begins Tuesday, November 24; Tuesday to Friday: 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday & Sunday: 12 to 5 p.m.
Children love writing to Santa Claus to tell him about their Christmas wish lists. Select either a card or Christmas stationery that has been printed on our 1845 printing press, then write a personal message with old-fashioned pen and ink. Drop the wish card into our magic post box for us to mail for you. Included with admission.

Christmas Cookie Decorating Class

Master Baker Monika Paradi will prepare you for Christmas with this hands-on workshop. Learn to decorate seasonal cookies like a pro, and leave the workshop (sticky) with half a dozen decorated cookies, recipes for icing and cookies, and with a template to design your own cookies!
