Free admission for children to historic sitesOn Saturday, November 21, the City's historic sites will offer free admission to children (12 years and under) during regular operating hours, in honour of the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Take the family to one of our great sites (please note this does not include specially-ticketed events or pre-registered programs).


Colborne Lodge in High Park
South end of the park, just north of The Queensway

Experience Christmas in the Park
Discover the magic of Christmas in the winter wonderland surroundings of High Park and enjoy a tour of Colborne Lodge, the picturesque home of the founders of High Park, decorated for a Victorian Christmas. You will discover festive traditions, decorations and foods enjoyed during the 19th-century in Toronto. Toast the season with a glass of hot mulled cider by the wood stove and nibble on special holiday treats.


Fort York National Historic Site
At the end of Garrison Road off Fleet Street or off Fort York Boulevard

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Discover the city's 1793 beginnings with a visit to the fort. See Canada's largest collection of original War of 1812 buildings and explore Toronto's turbulent military past through interesting and informative exhibits. It's a great day's outing!


Gibson House

Holiday Season Tours at Gibson House
Enjoy a peaceful moment during the rush of the holiday season. Come back to the gentler, quieter era of 1851 at historic Gibson House Museum, where visitors are welcomed by costumed staff for a tour. Children can play in our Discovery Gallery.


Mackenzie House

Visit this restored Greek Revival row-house in downtown Toronto that was home to William Lyon Mackenzie, the city's first mayor. The house features a recreated print shop, circa 1859. Learn about Mackenzie's Scottish heritage and role in the 1837 Upper Canadian Rebellion. Don't miss the exhibit Toronto's Tumultous Year - William Lyon Mackenzie as Mayor. The exhibit explores the eventful year in the life of the City, as shown through the ups and downs of Toronto's first, and still most controversial, Mayor.


Montgomery's Inn

Hours: 1 to 5 p.m. In the west end you'll find Montgomery's Inn with its long history of public gatherings and celebrations. Enjoy a tour of this historic museum that was once the home and working farm of the Montgomery family, as well as a popular respite for travellers. Treat yourself to a cup of tea in the tearoom.


Scarborough Museum

Hours: Noon to 5 p.m. Scarborough Museum is a living history museum located in beautiful Thomson Memorial Park. The site depicts life in Scarborough from the 1850s in the McCowan family's log house, to the early 1900s in the Cornell House.


Spadina Museum: Historic House & Gardens

Visit this magnificent mansion that was home to three generations of the wealthy Austin family. Its local and imported fine furniture, art and décor reflect Victorian, Edwardian and Art Nouveau influences. While here, don't miss our exhibit, Wall-to-Wall: A History of Carpeting in Toronto. This exhibit surveys imported and domestic wool floor coverings common in Toronto from the 1850s to 1920s. With a focus on domestic carpeting, the show explores philosophies of home comfort and decorative fashion.


Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre
Bottom of Pottery Road, east of Bayview Avenue, west of Broadview Avenue

Hours: Noon to 4 p.m.
Situated in the scenic Don Valley, Todmorden Mills Museum is a complex of historic buildings that include two 19th-century homes, the Brewery Gallery and the Papermill Theatre and Galleries. Enjoy a walk through the Wildflower Preserve and catch a glimpse of the migratory birds that frequent the grounds on their journey south.
