News Release
November 5, 2019

Mayor John Tory will lead a business mission to New York City from November 6 to 8 to encourage foreign direct investment in Toronto’s competitive and diverse sectors and engage with industry leaders from the financial services sector.

Building on the success of Mayor Tory’s mission to New York City in 2017, the mission will promote Toronto as a competitive global business centre, a hub for research and knowledge development, and pitch the Toronto advantage to specific companies considering investing in Toronto. The Mayor is scheduled to meet with 14 companies during the mission.

Mayor Tory will highlight the positive growth experienced in Toronto’s technology sector, including bio-technology and financial technology, as well as the significant growth in research and development fueled by the education sector.

This growth has been led, in part, by Ryerson University, one of eight publicly-funded post-secondary institutions in the Toronto region. Ryerson has opened a New York City location of its business incubator, Ryerson DMZ. This new location provides strategic support for Toronto based technology start-ups seeking to grow their customer base in the U.S. On Thursday night, Mayor Tory will be speaking about Toronto’s success story to an audience of more than 100 people at a New York City reception hosted by the Consulate General of Canada and Ryerson University.

Mayor Tory will be joined in New York City by representatives from Toronto Global and Toronto Finance International.

“Toronto has seen exponential growth over the last few years, in particular in our globally recognized technology sector. Our growing and resilient economy and our quality of life continues to attract people and companies from around the world and I am committed to continue building on this success.” ¬†
