The 14th annual Nuit Blanche Toronto will fill the city’s streets with nearly 90 contemporary art projects created by more than 300 artists starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 5. Details about the Nuit Blanche Toronto program are available online at http://www.toronto.ca/nbto.
Navigating the art by neighbourhood
Following a successful expansion outside the downtown core to Scarborough in 2018, Nuit Blanche returns to Scarborough for 2019 as well as activating new neighbourhoods outside the core. Nuit Blanche art projects are grouped into nine easy-to-navigate neighbourhoods to make exploring the event more efficient. The Nuit Neighbourhoods are Scarborough (20 projects), Don Mills (four projects), Danforth East (two projects), Bloor Yorkville (nine projects), Waterfront (11 projects), Downtown (16 projects), Sterling Road (six projects), West Queen West (five projects) and Fort York (15 projects).
Planning ahead
The Nuit Blanche Toronto website (http://www.toronto.ca/nbto) offers an interactive location-based event map, exhibition locations, project descriptions, road closure details, TTC information and more. A printed event map will be available for pickup at the main entrances of Toronto City Hall and Scarborough Civic Centre starting October 3.
Nuit Blanche Toronto audiences are welcome to stop by an Event Centre available on October 5 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to view large-scale maps and pick up a printed map, obtain information from a volunteer information ambassador, or to rest and refuel. Each of the four centres will include food vendors, washrooms and first-aid services (provided by Toronto Paramedic Services). The Event Centre locations:
• Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen St. W.
• Yonge Dundas Square, 1 Dundas St. E.
• Fort York Visitor Centre, 250 Fort York Blvd.
• Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.
TTC service
In addition to the regular all-night Blue Night Network service, the TTC will be extending all-night subway service on Line 1 Yonge-University, Line 2 Bloor-Danforth and Line 3 Scarborough. Day passes purchased for use on October 5 will be valid until 7 a.m. on October 6. Access to Line 3 Scarborough will be free from 7 p.m. on October 5 to 7 a.m. on October 6 at Scarborough Centre Station.

Roads affected by Nuit Blanche
Partial and full road closures will be in effect due to expected event attendance and to improve free-flowing access to the art projects, giving pedestrians safe and easy access.
As a result, portions of the following streets will be closed to vehicles:
• Bay Street between Dundas Street West and Adelaide Street West from 8 a.m. Saturday, October 5 until noon on Sunday, October 6.
• Queen Street West between Yonge Street and University Avenue from 4 p.m. Saturday, October 5 until 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 6.
• Fort York Boulevard between Ianuzzi Street and Fleet Street from 4 p.m. Saturday, October 5 to noon on Sunday, October 6.
These additional downtown road closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. on Friday, October 4 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6:
• Bay Street between Richmond Street West and Queen Street West
• Dundas Square Street between Yonge Street and O’Keefe Lane
• Fort York Boulevard between Angelique Street and Fleet Street
The following road closures in Scarborough will be in effect from 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 5 to 10 a.m. Sunday, October 6:
• Borough Approach East between Borough Drive and Ellesmere Road
• Borough Drive between Brian Harrison Way and Town Centre Court
• Town Centre Court from south of the City of Toronto parking lot to Borough Drive

Dawn art experience
People who want to avoid the crowds or who are more of an early bird than a night owl can choose a more intimate Nuit Blanche experience by attending from 4 to 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 6.
