Opt in or opt out of City collection services

New construction or home renovations could be reasons to stop or restart collection services.

You can opt out temporarily while renovating, demolishing a house or travelling (6 months or more). During your absence the City will remove your bins. You will be provided with bins upon notifying 311 Toronto of your return.

If you do not opt out, you will continue to be charged regardless of whether or not waste was set out for collection

When moving, bins remain property of the City and must remain at the property.

If you stop your garbage collection, you will not receive the accompanying free services of recycling, Green Bin organics, Household Hazardous Waste, electronic waste and oversized/metal items pick up.

Renovation waste is not collected at curb. This includes: drywall, doors, lumber, counters, vanities, kitchen cabinets, roof shingles, tiles, etc. Take these items to a Drop-off Depot. Fees will apply.
