Water Supply

Lawrence Pumping Station

Lawrence pumping station

Water Supply’s three main functions are pumping, storage and transmission. It delivers potable (drinking) water from the water treatment plants to the local district distribution systems, providing proper quality, quantity and pressure.

Part of Water Treatment & Supply, it takes the following system elements:

  • 18 pumping stations
  • 10 underground reservoirs
  • four elevated tanks
  • roughly 500 kilometres of trunk water mains

Control Centre

The Transmission Control Centre resides in the High Level pumping station, with a complete backup at the John Street pumping station. The state-of-the-art Process Control System (PCS), along with high speed communication lines linking all key system elements, provide sophisticated monitoring and control of the entire transmission system.

Monitoring includes pressures, flows, reservoir levels, chlorine residuals, power consumption, pump efficiencies, equipment condition and performance, building temperatures, flood conditions and security.
