Every rental apartment building with three or more storeys and 10 or more units must register with RentSafeTO. Once registered, owners are required to renew their registration every year by July 31. The registration/renewal fee per residential unit can be found in Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 441 Fees and Charges, Appendix C Schedule 12, Municipal Licensing and Standards (reference number 451).

How to Register or Renew

  1. To register or renew your building(s) online you must have your login and PIN password that was mailed to you from the City. If you do not have a login and PIN password, call 416-396-7228.
  2. For renewals, you can view your invoice and make payment using a major credit card once you have logged into the online portal. Visa Debit is not supported at this time.
  3. For new registrations, you can view the registration form to see what information you need to complete the online registration. You can also print out the application form and bring it in person to the RentSafeTO office. In-person registration of new buildings will be accepted until 3:30 p.m. daily. A bill will be generated after all details have been provided and payment can be made using a major credit card. (Visa Debit is not supported online at this time.)
  4. Not paying online? Cash or certified cheque (payable to City of Toronto, Treasurer), is accepted by mail or in person by Revenue Services, PPF&A at 55 John St, 19th Floor; ATTN: Finance (RentSafeTO).
