The City of Toronto will fully close Allen Road this weekend, starting Friday, September 17 at 11 p.m. until Monday, September 20 at 5 a.m. The closure will extend from Eglinton Avenue West to Sheppard Avenue West, including all on/off ramps at Allen Road and Highway 401.
A full closure of Allen Road for one weekend is an important and safe way that City road crews, engineers and stakeholders, as well as those of Toronto Hydro and can make improvements and keep the expressway in the best state of good repair.
Allen Road spans 7.5 kilometres and provides important north-south access for approximately 80,000 vehicles during weekday peak periods. It’s important that the roadway and nearby infrastructure be maintained for the safety and efficiency of those who rely on it.
Traffic signals around the roadway will be actively adjusted to enhance traffic flow on nearby routes and additional signage has been placed to help notify and detour drivers. Those planning to drive in the area this weekend should expect delays, are encouraged to plan their trips ahead, leave plenty of extra time and consider using public transit where possible.
City staff estimate that it would take approximately 20 to 30 separate days with lane closures to complete the same amount of highly coordinated work performed in one single weekend.

Motorists can use Keele Street, Dufferin Street, Avenue Road and Bathurst Street as alternative routes during the weekend closure.
