News Release
June 26, 2021

Starting at 7 a.m. tomorrow, the City of Toronto and Toronto Vaccine Day “Our Winning Shot” clinic partners will vaccinate 25,000 Torontonians who have committed to protecting themselves, loved ones and the wider community from COVID-19.

Mayor John Tory has proclaimed Sunday, June 27 as Toronto Vaccine Day. To mark the day, the Toronto Sign will be lit pink in support of all those who have stepped up to the plate and been vaccinated or made their appointment to be vaccinated, including the 25,000 people heading to the “Our Winning Shot” clinic at Scotiabank Arena.

It takes a deep bench to score Toronto’s winning shot. Close to 1,500 people are coming together to make this Sunday’s clinic at Scotiabank Arena a success.

“Our Winning Shot” countdown:

  • 25,000 people booked for vaccinations
  • 1,785 average vaccines per hour
  • 800 volunteers
  • 400 vaccinators
  • 215 different signs
  • 135 pharmacy staff
  • 116 registration staff
  • 50 community ambassadors
  • 30 organizations
  • 25 pairs of Maple Leaf tickets to give away
  • 25 pairs of Raptors tickets to give away
  • 10 days of planning
  • 2 mascots
  • 1 possible Canadian record (10,470)
  • 1 possible North American record (17,003)
  • 1 possible world record

The “Our Winning Shot” clinic is made possible through a partnership between the City, Michael Garron Hospital, University Health Network, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, and Scotiabank. Fully booked with 25,000 appointments, Toronto Vaccine Day will more than double the current Canadian record for most people vaccinated at a one-day clinic and is on track to set a new worldwide single-day clinic record.

The team of staff and volunteers is eager to get to work making history in the home of Toronto’s beloved professional hockey and basketball teams. The capacity of Scotiabank Arena is 19,800 – meaning the “Our Winning Shot” clinic will bring in 5,200 more people than a sellout Maple Leafs or Raptors home game.

“Our Winning Shot” clinic details are available on the City’s COVID-19: How to Get Vaccinated webpage. For updates, including entry information, people with confirmed bookings should check the webpage regularly.

Even though the “Our Winning Shot” clinic is fully booked there may be buzzer beater appointments available if there are cancellations. Anyone looking for an appointment is asked to check the provincial vaccine booking system regularly.

Anyone who can no longer attend their Toronto Vaccine Day appointment is urged to cancel through the provincial Manage Your Appointment(s) webpage or by calling the provincial vaccine booking line at 1-833-943-3900 so that someone else can schedule an appointment and be part of this exciting day.

To easily connect to resources including vaccine appointment bookings, information on vaccines and upcoming telephone town halls, Toronto residents can text “VACCINE” to 1-833-750-0888 or 833-750-0888 for more information.
