Today, Mayor John Tory announced that registration for City of Toronto fall recreation programs opens on September 25 and 28. This fall marks the return of regular recreation programming for the City of Toronto, where COVID-19 has impacted programming since March 2020. The City is Toronto’s largest provider of recreation programs for people of all ages, skill levels and interests.

Registration for fall recreation programs and December holiday programs starts at 7 a.m. on the following dates:

  • Saturday, September 25 – Etobicoke York and Scarborough
  • Tuesday, September 28 – North York and Toronto and East York

Weekly group classes and workshops are available for a variety of programs for all ages including arts, fitness and wellness, general interest, skating, sports, swimming, virtual programming as well as December holiday programs. Programs will begin on Saturday, October 16.

The Provincial proof of vaccination and valid identification requirements will be in place starting September 22 for many program participants, visitors and spectators entering indoor areas of City fitness centres and weight rooms, arenas, pools, gymnasiums, sport and fitness programs, meeting and event spaces and theatres.

This includes:

  • Indoor areas of fitness centres, weight rooms and fitness classes for participants 12 years and older
  • Organized sports, dance, martial arts and swimming programs for participants 18 years and older
  • Spectators 12 years and older and their caregivers, and those 18 years and older accessing an indoor area used for sports and recreation fitness activities

Some exceptions include:

  • Children under 12 years old
  • Patrons under 18 years actively participating (i.e. not spectators) in organized sport
  • Medical exceptions with a written document from a medical doctor or registered nurse
  • Patrons entering the facility solely for washroom use, to make a payment or register for a program

Other public health measures such as health screening, contract tracing, masking, physical distancing, and capacity restrictions continue. Additional information is available online .

The quickest and easiest way to register for recreation programs is online . Phone registration will also be available at 416-396-7378, beginning at 7 a.m. on registration dates. Five community centre locations will be open on registration dates for in-person registration support, and Wi-Fi will be available for residents that may want to bring their own electronic devices to the in-person registration sites. Staff will also be on-site to assist with the registration process and register those without their own electronic devices. Locations and hours are available here .

Residents who may require help preparing for registration can call 416-396-7378 Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The call centre will be open for extended hours on Friday, September 24 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Monday, September 27, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents require a family and client number to sign up for recreation programs.

Clients can set their family account online. Once completed, your Family and Client number will be emailed to you.

Due to changes in Toronto’s ward boundaries, the registration date for some locations has changed, specifically for York South-Weston. Residents are asked to plan ahead and confirm the district for their programs before registration starts. Residents can find out which district their community recreation centre is in here . Non-Toronto residents can register 10 days after registration starts.

Parks, Forestry and Recreation programs are popular and many of them develop waiting lists. If registrants are unable to attend their registered program, they are asked to contact their local community centre or call the customer service line to cancel their booking so the spot can be offered to someone else.

Welcome Policy yearly credit
The Welcome Policy credit can be used to register for City recreation programs. Those receiving social assistance (Ontario Works) and living in Toronto are pre-approved to receive this credit and should speak to their caseworker. Details are available here.

Older adult discounts
Participants 60 years and older receive a 50 per cent discount on the regular price of adult recreation programs, excluding private, semi-private and small group lessons. More information about accessible recreation programs is available online .
