The City of Toronto’s Fire Services has announced a potentially life-saving donation of 500 smoke alarms from First Alert, which will be delivered to Community Centre 55 later today for distribution during its Share a Christmas event. The Share a Christmas program provides food and gifts to many families during December.
“Smoke alarms are every family’s most important line of defence against fire tragedies,” said Chief Matthew Pegg of Toronto Fire Services. “When coupled with a practised home escape plan, smoke alarms can ensure that the holiday season is remembered for the right reasons.”
First Alert has been dedicated to helping communities and educating people about fire safety for more than 60 years.
“We are excited for this donation of much needed smoke alarms,” said Debbie Visconti, Executive Director of Centre 55. “For 37 years, Centre 55 has been providing Christmas to east-end families in need.”
Toronto Fire Services recognizes that fires tend to increase during the holiday season and wants to place extra emphasis on home safety.
Among anticipated guests at today’s event is City Councillor Brad Bradford (Ward 19 Beaches-East York). The festive gathering is taking place at Community Centre 55 (99 Main St.) starting at 2:30 p.m.
