City Services Affected by Winter Weather

  • Most City-run childcare centres remain open, except for six located in Toronto District School Board schools. The closed centres include: 
    • Firgrove Satellite Early Learning & Child Care Centre, 270 Firgrove Cres.
    • O’Connor Satellite Early Learning & Child Care Centre, 1665 O’Connor Dr.
    • Chester Le Early Learning & Child Care Centre, 201 Chester Le Blvd.
    • Taylor Creek Early Learning & Child Care Centre, 644 Warden Ave.
    • Emery Early Learning & Child Care Centre, 3395 Weston Rd.
    • Rawlinson Early Learning & Child Care Centre, 40 Earnscliffe Rd.
  • After-School Recreation (ARC) programs are cancelled today. 
    • The Rexdale Employment Services location is closed.  For in-person service, please visit Attwell Employment & Social Services. 
    • Some recreation centre programs and outdoor ice rinks are experiencing a slow start this morning. Please check the Parks & Recreation Service Alerts webpage for updates.  
    • Keele Community Hub will be closed today. 
    • Garbage collection and Green Bin (organics) collection is continuing across the city, with potential delays.    
    • Residents are reminded to follow their regular waste collection schedule and to place bins on their property, not on the sidewalk or road, so that snow plowing can take place safely. Please ensure bins are placed on flat ground, not on top of snowbanks, and that snow is cleared from around all bins to provide clear access from the road.  
    • Bins should be left out until collected. However, if possible, to assist with any overnight snow clearing operations please bring your bins back in by 8pm if not collected and place back out the next day before 7am.       
    • If possible, residents are requested to hold onto oversized and metal items until the next scheduled collection.    
    • Any questions related to recycling should be directed to Circular Materials. 
    • The City’s Warming Centres remain open, providing a warm place for individuals to rest, access meals and get referrals to community services. Walk-ins are welcome. Locations are:   
      • 136 Spadina Rd. (South of Dupont St.)
      • 81 Elizabeth St. (Behind City Hall. West of Bay St., south of Dundas St. W.)
      • 349 George St. (East of Jarvis St., south of Gerrard St. E.
      • 12 Holmes Ave. (Off of Yonge St., south of Finch Ave. E.)
      • 885 Scarborough Golf Club Rd. (East of Markham Rd., south of Ellesmere Rd.)    
            • Two additional surge Warming Centres will open at 5 p.m. today at: 
              • Cecil Community Centre, 58 Cecil St. (East of Spadina Ave., south of College St.)
              • Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre, 870 Queen St. E. (East of Broadview Ave., north of Queen St. E.   
                • A number of daytime drop-in programs are also available, offering extended hours. 
                • Information on drop-ins, Warming Centres and other services to help individuals experiencing homelessness can be found on the City’s Homeless Help webpage or by calling Central Intake at 416-338-4766, 1-877-338-3398. 
                • Additional street outreach staff have been dispatched to connect with people living outside to perform wellness checks and encourage them to come indoors. Should members of the public see someone who they feel needs support, please contact 311 and outreach staff will be dispatched to offer indoor referrals and services.  
                  • All Toronto History Museums sites are closed, as well as the Sky & Bone: Realties Unbound exhibition located at 401 Richmond.
                  • Assembly Hall, Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and the Clark Centre of the Arts are closed. Assembly Hall may reopen for tonight’s performance.
                  • Some branches may remain closed due to the weather conditions and all branches will be closing at 5 p.m. Contact Answerline for the latest information.
