Step 1: Curbside Collection
The Green Bin Program is a huge success with 90% of single family homes participating. Organic materials are collected from over half a million single family homes each week.

City collection trucks have two separate compartments. One for organic materials which is collected weekly. The other for recyclable materials or garbage (residual waste) which are collected on alternating weeks.
The collection truck arrives at the organics processing facility and enters the receiving area where bags of organic material are dumped onto the tipping floor.
The organics are visually inspected and large, unwanted items removed.
