The City of Toronto is pleased to announce that construction of Dunn House – Canada’s first-ever social medicine supportive housing initiative – is complete. Fred Victor, the building operator, is preparing to welcome new residents.
In response to the number of people actively experiencing homelessness in Toronto and the urgent need for housing, the City, in partnership with all orders of government, the University Health Network (UHN) Gattuso Centre for Social Medicine and the United Way of Greater Toronto (UWGT), is building modular supportive housing at the parking lot located at 90 Dunn Avenue.
This new four-storey modular building will provide homes for approximately 51 people and support their health and well-being. The new homes will include studio apartments with a bathroom and a kitchen, shared laundry, a commercial kitchen, a dining area, a communal area, and a programming space. The building will be dedicated to people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness, including seniors, women, Indigenous residents, racialized people, people with disabilities and others.
The support services model for this site will be developed by UHN Gattuso Centre for Social Medicine, the City and its community partners. It will incorporate a range of health and social services to be delivered onsite. Through this partnership with UHN, residents will also be connected to primary care and other health services within the hospital’s Parkdale campus.

Meeting Materials
Housing with supports is a combination of deeply affordable housing and on-site supports that enable people to live as independently as possible. Supportive housing can help people stabilize their lives, help them stay housed and positively contribute to communities.

The modular building is located on the area currently being used as a parking lot, specifically the area of the south parking lot of UHN’s E.W. Bickle Centre for Complex Continuing Care.
There is no application process or waitlist for this building. Tenants for these homes will be identified using a prioritization-based approach to connect people experiencing homelessness to this permanent housing opportunity.
The City and the selected non-profit housing provider will coordinate the tenant identification process in partnership with street outreach, shelter, 24-hr respite, and hotel/motel program providers.
