City of Toronto vaccination clinics administered more than 1,000 vaccine doses as part of last Saturday’s #Vax25 COVID-19 vaccination push. The push highlighted vaccination clinics in each of the city’s 25 wards, ensuring every eligible Torontonian could receive a vaccination close to home.

#Vax25 highlighted 37 clinics across Toronto operating on Saturday, October 2. Among the 37 clinics were City-run immunization and mobile immunization clinics, including those at Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Scarborough Town Centre, Mitchell Field Community Centre, Woodbine Mall and Cloverdale Mall. City-operated clinics administered 1,021 doses of vaccine on Saturday. This total does not include the hundreds of doses administered by Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaws, No Frills and Rexall pharmacies across the city that participated in #Vax25.

Clinic locations were selected by Toronto Public Health as part of the Team Toronto Mobile Strategy data approach to continue to remove barriers and bring vaccines to residents in areas and settings that have low vaccination coverage and to residents who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19.

Councillors from each ward promoted #Vax25 clinics in their area on social media or directly to their constituents, or visited a local clinic in their ward. Mayor John Tory was on hand with local Councillor Paula Fletcher at a Toronto-Danforth #Vax25 clinic to meet the pharmacist and promote the clinic to local residents.

The #Vax25 campaign was aimed at increasing access to vaccines for Toronto residents who have not yet had their first or second dose. More than 81 per cent of eligible Toronto residents are now fully vaccinated and more than 86 per cent of residents have at least their first dose.

Mobile clinics are in operation across the city every day. A list of public mobile clinic opportunities can be found online.

Quotes:

“The #Vax25 initiative this past Saturday highlighted 37 busy vaccine clinics across all 25 wards. I appreciate the hard work of Team Toronto partners, as well as local pharmacies and pharmacy staff who were on hand to vaccinate local residents for this campaign. Thank you to the more than 1,000 Torontonians who came out to their neighbourhood clinic to get their first or second dose. They are helping ensure a safer city for all and protect the progress we are making.”

– Mayor John Tory

“Through partnership and collaboration across the city, the #Vax25 Team administered over 1,000 shots to Torontonians in a single day. With at least one vaccine clinic in each of the City’s 25 wards, #Vax25 made it clear just how critical accessibility is when it comes to vaccines. To reach our target of 90 percent of eligible Torontonians fully vaccinated, we’ll continue to go neighbourhood by neighbourhood, and work together with Councillors, residents, and community organizations to bring vaccines to everyone, everywhere.”

– Councillor Joe Cressy (Spadina-Fort York), Chair of the Board of Health

“This weekend’s #Vax25 initiative was another great example of our community coming together with our Team Toronto partners to help residents to get fully vaccinated. Thank you to everyone who came out to a #Vax25 clinic this weekend to protect yourself, your loved ones and our city from COVID-19, and to our Team Toronto partners for your continued hard work to make it as convenient as possible for residents to get vaccinated where they live, work and play.  There are still many opportunities to get vaccinated in our city and I encourage everyone who is not yet fully vaccinated to visit the clinic most convenient for you to help us keep moving forward towards ending this pandemic.”

– Dr. Eileen de Villa, Medical Officer of Health
