Effective January 1, 2025, Ontario is adopting the new 2024 Ontario Building Code to replace the 2012 Ontario Building Code.
During the transition period (January 1, 2025-March 31, 2025), applicants may submit permit applications compliant with the existing 2012 Ontario Building Code, under certain conditions outlined in the transition clause and summarized below.
Permit applications submitted on or prior to December 31, 2024 will be reviewed against the 2012 Ontario Building Code. Construction must commence within six (6) months of the permit being issued.
Permit applications submitted between January 1, 2025 and March 31, 2025 where the working drawings, plans, and specifications were substantially completed on or prior to December 31, 2024 AND where a Design Attestation Form is provided, the proposal will be reviewed against the 2012 Ontario Building Code. Construction must commence within six (6) months of the permit being issued.
Permit applications submitted on April 1st and onwards will be reviewed against the 2024 Ontario Building Code.
