Many people find current parking signs hard to understand. Signs can be crowded with information, use small text, or show multiple rules at once. Sometimes, several signs are posted together with different times, arrows, or exceptions, making it difficult to quickly figure out where and when you can park. This can lead to confusion, mistakes, and frustration for drivers.

The City of Toronto is piloting new types of parking signs in select downtown areas and along streetcar routes to improve how clearly parking rules are communicated.

Each pilot tests a different sign design or communication method. Only one type of pilot sign will be tested at any one location.

The goal of these pilots is to improve driver comprehension, reduce confusion, and support better compliance with parking regulations.

Please see the map below for pilot locations across Toronto.

If you have parked in an area where new signage is being tested, we want to hear from you.

Each pilot has its own survey so we can better understand how effective the signs are and whether they are easy to understand.

Please select the pilot type below to provide feedback:

Regulatory parking sign indicating No Parking to the left, No Stopping Monday–Friday from 7:30–9:30 a.m. and 3:30–6:30 p.m. in both directions, and No Standing Friday–Monday from 2:00–6:00 a.m. in both directions.Parking signs across Toronto are usually easy to understand on their own. However, when multiple signs are posted together on the same pole, they can become confusing for drivers.

As part of this pilot, redesigned parking signs will replace traditional signs in select locations.

The goal of this pilot is to make parking rules clearer and easier to follow by improving how signs are designed and displayed.

Starting in Winter 2026-2027, illuminated digital “No Parking” signs will be installed on sections of select streetcar routes.

These signs will activate during declared "major snow storm condition" to clearly indicate when temporary parking restrictions are in effect.

The goal of this pilot is to provide clear, real-time parking information during major snow storm condition to reduce confusion and making it easier for people to follow parking rules.

What is Changing?

Digital signs will be installed alongside existing Snow Route “No Parking” signs.

During a declared major snow storm condition, the digital signs will light up to clearly show that temporary parking restrictions are in effect.

Once the major snow storm condition has ended, the signs will turn off and regular parking rules will resume.

Digital Sign Pilot Locations

These signs will be installed along sections of the:

  • 505 Dundas streetcar route
  • 506 Carlton streetcar route

More information, including locations and survey details, will be added prior to launch.
