Buying a Surplus City Vehicle

The City of Toronto sells surplus (decommissioned) vehicles through monthly auctions run by North Toronto Auction. Auctions are held in Innisfil, Ontario. You can attend in person or bid online through the auction website.

Auctions are held on the last Saturday of each month.

  • If the last Saturday falls on a holiday weekend, the auction is held the week before.
  • Doors open at 8 a.m.
  • The auction starts at 9 a.m.

All vehicles are sold “as is, where is.”

You are responsible for any repairs, certification or emissions testing. You must also arrange to remove the vehicle after purchase.

The City now sells vehicles every month instead of twice a year. This helps:

  • Reduce costs for storage, towing and depreciation
  • Prevent theft and damage
  • Increase resale value
  • Sell more vehicles while they are still in working condition
