Notice:

  • January 24, 2024: Vehicle accident inside the Parkside entrance this morning caused closure to the Park. EMS and Fire were on site. Around 9:00am the accident was cleared and gates at the Parkside entrance are now open.
  • High Park rink pads maintenance: Beginning Wednesday Sept 20, 2023 emergency work will be occurring on the two High Park ice rink pads where the headers are being replaced. These headers are what keeps the ice cold in the winter for the rinks season. The work is anticipated to be completed around November 1, 2023. During this time, these two pads will be closed off to the public.

Pickleball notice during maintenance work:

  • The south rink pad with the 3 Pickleball courts will be closed all the time, since they will have a large amount of equipment staged on this pad and a significant amount of welding work occurring here.
  • The north rink pad with the 5 Pickleball courts on it must be closed each weekday from 7am – 4pm for safety while their work is ongoing. However they are going to be able to leave these 5 courts open each day from 4pm onward to enable evening play. They will also not be working on weekends, so these 5 courts are also accessible all day Saturday and Sunday.

Cherry Trees in High Park

The original Japanese cherry trees (Prunus 'Sakura') in High Park are located on the hill to the south and west of the Grenadier Restaurant that leads down to Grenadier Pond. These trees are more than 40 years old and have not bloomed well in recent years, as they are well past their prime and most are dying.

The trees were donated by the Japanese consulate, and the trees were grown in Ontario, in the Guelph area.

The Japanese Consul General has donated new young trees which are planted in the same areas and when mature will provide spectacular blooms.

The cherry trees in High Park usually bloom the first week of May, but anything horticultural is dependent on the weather and is not confined to a specific date. If the weather is warm and the older trees bloom, they will only last a few days. Information on High Park bloom times is available on the High Park Nature Centre website.
