Our Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Program has been crafted to provide the best resources and support you need to achieve your designation, along with relevant, qualifying experience to kick start your career with the City of Toronto.

At the City, you can achieve your designation through various paths including the CPA Pre-Approved Program Route (PPR) and the Experience Verification Route (EVR). While obtaining your qualifying experience and working towards your CPA designation, you can make a lasting impact in one of North America’s largest cities.

The City of Toronto provides its CPA candidates with access to the following resources to support their CPA journey:

  • Resources – Receive access to a detailed study plan, case writing tracker and tailored practical experience tracker to track your progress
  • Study Leave and Financial Support – Receive financial support for costs associated with obtaining the designation and appropriate study leave for exams
  • CPA Mentorship Program – Match up with an experienced City of Toronto CPA mentor for guidance and support to meet the CPA requirements
  • CPA Community of Practice – Connect, ask questions and share knowledge with other CPA candidates completing their CPA journey at the City of Toronto
  • One-on-One Consultations – Obtain tailored guidance for educational requirements and practical experience reporting.

CPA Pre-Approved Program Route (PPR)

The City of Toronto’s 30-month rotational program ensures CPA Candidates achieve their educational and practical experience requirements to become a designated CPA.  At the City of Toronto, there are a variety of practical experience paths available within financial planning, accounting and internal audit.

To qualify for our CPA Pre-Approved Program Route (PPR), you must have completed the academic prerequisites and be eligible for the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) prior to onboarding as a City of Toronto CPA Associate in September 2023.

2023 targeted recruitment timelines and process:

  • March: Role posted on City of Toronto website
  • April – May: Interviews
  • June – July: Offers
  • September: Onboarding

CPA Experience Verification Route (EVR)

Explore a variety of finance and accounting roles at the City of Toronto to fulfil the requirements for qualifying CPA experience.
