Todmorden Mills Heritage Site is a complex of historic buildings which were once part of the small industrial community of Todmorden. Located at 67 Pottery Rd. (Broadview/Danforth), the site consists of two historic millers’ homes dating from the early 19th century, the Brewery building and the recently renovated Papermill Theatre and Gallery. Adjoining the site is a 9.2-hectare wildflower preserve with walking trails exploring several natural habitats, including upland and bottomland forests, dry and wet meadows, swamp lands and a pond.

Learn about the scenic Don Valley’s diverse meadowland, forest and wetland habitats to discover the needs of animals and plants, and how we can uphold our responsibility to the land as treaty partners with the First Nations of the land.

Creepy Crawlies & Puddle Jumpers

Experience meadowland, forest and wetland habitats to discover the impact of humans on ecosystems and reflect on our shared responsibilities to this land as treaty partners with the First Nations of this land. 

In this program, students connect with nature on a guided walk in the Todmorden Mills Wildflower Preserve and use of variety of materials to create their own unique three-dimensional creepy crawlies craft to take home.

In Spring and Fall, students investigate macro-invertebrates in a sample of pond water and depict their findings with drawings and creative movement activities. In Winter, students examine biofacts by playing games to learn more about the urban wildlife in Toronto.

This program has both indoor and outdoor components and runs rain or shine.

$4.87 plus HST per student

One supervisor free per 15 students or part thereof. $4.87 plus HST per additional supervisor.

Nature in the Valley

Recognize the impact settlers have had on the environment, how plants and animals have adapted to changes in the environment, and how we can uphold our responsibilities to the land as treaty partners with the First Nations of this land.  

Students connect with nature on a guided walk in the Todmorden Mills Wildflower Preserve and investigate macro-invertebrates in a sample of pond water. Teachers can also choose one of the following activities:

Hands-on examination of different soil types
Construct an experimental water filtration system
Play an interactive game highlighting the importance of biodiversity.

This program is available from mid-April to June, and from September to October. This program has both indoor and outdoor components and runs rain or shine.
