Data Integration Services
Data Integration Services supports the data collection, processing and integration activities of Survey and Utility Mapping Services and its clients. We also maintain the Horizontal and Vertical Control Network and support the data management for the maintenance of the Topographic, Infrastructure and Parcel assets.
Database Integration
- develop and manage Divisional and Departmental databases
- integrate tabular data into existing database solutions
- develop small scale data access applications
- liaise with Corporate Information and Technology
- support Divisional and Departmental data management projects
Graphic Data Integration
- Develops and provides services for data translation, transformation, reprojection and resymbolization of graphic, CADD, GIS, geo-database and tabular database data sets.
- Develops and provides services for automating, optimizing and “batching” graphic processes including preparation of large data sets based on client requirements.
- Develops and provides tools for data access to and downloading of base mapping for Capital Works projects.
- Develops and provides tools for harmonizing, optimizing and administering of the CADD graphic specification in Technical Services.
- Develops and provides tools and software for asset verification and updating using PC tablet and the ESRI ARCPAD software. One of the applications was featured in “Showcase Ontario 2008”.
- Provides an internal website for technical specifications and resources.
Survey Equipment and Systems
- management of the survey field equipment
- manage software, applications and hardware
- works in conjunction with Departmental I.T. providing desktop computer support
Control Surveys
- Provides the basis for mapping of property parcels and above- and underground features. This is accomplished through:
- extension and maintenance of the system of precise horizontal and vertical control markers located throughout the city
- promotion of the use of global positioning and other portable mapping systems
- management of the horizontal and vertical control data asset and developing/maintaining the systems environment for data processing and distribution
- development of a GPS base station reference network
- performing mapping control projects and infrastructure data collection to support departmental corporate GIS efforts
- supporting the integration of Legal Surveys through the adoption of the NAD ’83 CSRS datum
CADD/Design/Plan Administration
- provides quality assurance and control within the division's CADD Environment
- provides division 's first response support for the Bentley suite of products
- provides administrative support for delivery of the Capital program
- CADD specification Development
- provides Application and Administrative support for DMS (Document Management System)
- provides divisional Bentley training support
- provides divisional support for CADD users (plotting, drawing, design, archival procedures)
- develops supporting document for divisional engineering processes
Land and Property Surveys
Land and Property Surveys is responsible for undertaking property and topographic surveys of lands owned by the City and its ABC's; preparing legal descriptions of land; managing property records; undertaking title searches and analyzing complex property records; and the street naming and addressing functions for the City.
Property Surveys
- undertake property surveys of City-owned land and land owned by the City's ABC's
- undertake survey calculations and the preparation of plans of survey
- maintain and manage survey records
- review and comment on first applications under the Land Titles Act
Property Records
- manage the Registry Office records of land holdings of the City and its ABC's
- prepare sketches of the City's interests for various real estate transactions and by-laws
- comment on development review projects
- assignment and reassignment of municipal numbers (*new)
Titles and Status
- prepare legal descriptions of land for various real estate transactions and by-laws
- undertake title searches
- analyze complex land ownership documents
- naming and renaming of public and private roads / lanes (*new)
Engineering Surveys
Engineering Surveys was created to provide support to the engineering design and construction activities in Technical Services, Water and Wastewater, Transportation and other divisions and departments.
- undertake topographic and preliminary design surveys for City owned facilities and facilities owned by the City's ABC's
- provide construction layout services for City infrastructure
- undertake Engineering Survey calculations and the preparation of preliminary plans
- manage the survey records of City infrastructure
- conduct preliminary inspections and report on the condition of infrastructure
- locate and mark out underground infrastructure/facilities
- monitor construction and support inspection activities
- provide volume and quantity surveys
- undertake hydrographic surveys
- provide audit services for construction projects
- collect as-build data for the updating of infrastructure records
- assist with the maintenance of the horizontal and vertical control networks
Utility Mapping
Utility Mapping is responsible for the maintenance of the City of Toronto underground and above ground utility mapping as it relates to the DMOG (Digital Map Owners Group) mapping program as well as City’s Street Furniture Program, fibre optic networks, pedestrian street lighting network, sewer and water networks.
- The area of DMOG mapping include the Former City of Toronto boundaries.
- Integrates CAD, GIS and database information and provides services associated with the identification, location, and mapping of public utilities
- Receives or requests information related to the identification and location of as-built infrastructure and maps/tracks changes to Public Utility Plant installation.
- Oversees preparation of maps and plans for the capital works program
- Investigates and responds to inquiries from staff, public, surveyors, consultants and contractors related to utility mapping.
- Underground mapping: City Utility Mapping including water and sewer networks (sanitary, storm and combined)
