The City of Toronto announced four road closures this weekend that will impact essential travel downtown from Friday, December 18 through Sunday, December 20.

Members of the public are reminded to stay home to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Anyone who needs to travel for essential reasons should plan their trip in advance and use alternate routes.

The closures are as follows:

  • Queen Street East between Jarvis Street and Church Street – An ongoing full closure to accommodate emergency underground sewer construction. This work began Wednesday, December 16 and will continue 24/7 until it is finished  (expected to be Sunday) and then the road can be reopened.
  • Bay Street between Front Street West and Lake Shore Boulevard  West. – A full weekend closure is scheduled from Friday, December 18 at 10 p.m. until Monday, December 21 at 6 a.m. to accommodate a planned large crane removal. The work will require a second full weekend closure early in 2021.
  • Front Street West (eastbound lanes only) between Bay Street. and York Street – Overnight lane closures from Friday, December 18 at 7 p.m. until Saturday, December 19 at 4 a.m. will be in place for planned filming.
  • Bloor Street West between Yonge Street and Balmuto Street – A full overnight closure is required from Friday, December 18 at 7 p.m. until Saturday, December 19 at 7 a.m. to accommodate a planned large-scale concrete pour.

No subway service will be available on Line 1 between Lawrence and St. Clair stations on Saturday. This work is to accommodate ongoing Eglinton Crosstown construction. Shuttle buses will operate throughout the closure. More information is available here

Where possible, the City’s Work Zone coordination team has moved activities overnight and all locations will have signage in advance of activities and paid duty officers in place at key intersections to help manage traffic.
