The City of Toronto has appointed Lawrence Eta as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) effective October 1.

In August, the City transitioned the former Chief Information Officer role to that of CTO to better align with industry technology leadership titles and to enable the City’s corporate priorities and modernization efforts. Over the past few months, Eta shared the role of acting CTO to ensure that Information and Technology (I&T) continued to provide innovative technology services and initiatives across the City.

Eta joined the City of Toronto two years ago as Deputy Chief Information Officer, Technology Infrastructure Services. During this time, he has supported a number of key City priorities, including leading the deployment of internal instant messaging and establishing the City’s cyber security program, security awareness training and vulnerability assessments.

Prior to joining the City, Eta held progressively senior executive leadership roles in the private sector, including as Vice President, Technical Architecture at global solutions provider Maximus. Eta is a seasoned people leader who has experience leading technology and business process re-engineering and implementing modernization strategies.
