Many of the award recipients join Mayor David Miller and Councillors before the ceremony. City Manager Shirley Hoy welcomes the recipients and their guests to the Council Chamber at City Hall.

Mayor David Miller: "The fight for universal human rights is a fight against violence, poverty, hunger, racism, sexism, homelessness, homophobia, illiteracy and many other barriers to the basic rights and dignity."

Mayor David Miller presents a copy of the Human Rights Day proclamation to Merella Fernandez, host of the evening's festivities.
