If light from a building or vehicle headlights is shining directly into your home, you can contact 311 to file a complaint. The City will investigate the issue.
For a complaint to be considered a possible bylaw violation, the light must be shining directly into a dwelling unit.
Under the Property Standards Bylaw, property owners must take steps to reduce impacts on neighbouring properties. This may include:
- Installing barriers or shields to stop lights and vehicle headlights from shining directly into homes.
- Using barriers to prevent litter, debris, and other materials from blowing onto nearby properties.
- Installing and maintaining fences, screens, or other visual barriers to reduce the impact of nuisances on neighbouring properties and public streets.
- Providing barriers strong enough to prevent the dumping of garbage or debris on yards or vacant land.
