Designing Transit Cities Join international and local experts in thought-provoking discussions that will address:

Urban Design Awards logo The 2009 Toronto Urban Design Awards winners were announced and celebrated on Monday, September 21st at an awards gala hosted at Palais Royale. From the 117 entries, the jury handed out 6 Awards of Excellence and 12 Honourable Mentions. See the winners and jury comments in the complete Jury Report.

 
Avenues and Mid-Rise Buildings Study
Avenues and Mid-Rise Buildings Study staff report The main objective of this City-wide study is to expedite and encourage the development of more and better designed mid-rise buildings on Toronto's Avenues. The consultant's study develops a set of draft Mid-Rise Buildings Performance Standards (pdf 32MB) to inform how planned buildings should behave towards their context and enhance the public realm.

Greening Surface Parkign Lots These Guidelines provide specific strategies and measures which developers, designers and reviewers of surface parking lots can apply to help meet Official Plan policies and environmental performance targets of the Toronto Green Development Standard.
 
Gateways
Gateways Gateways are a type of Place-making device that transform strategic access points in the City's network of transportation corridors and open spaces into pleasing and memorable arrival points. A request for proposals was issued in August 2005 inviting qualified proponents to work with stakeholders to create a range of alternative designs for three Urban Design Gateway sites.
 
Design of Tall Buildings
tall building design review criteria To enhance the public realm and ensure new tall buildings fit well within their existing and planned context, Council approved Design Criteria for Review of Tall Building Proposals (2.6 MB ).
 
Higher Learning Symposium
Higher Learning On October 19, 2006 the Higher Learning Symposium examined opposing views through the eyes of tall building designers, developers, city staff and residents from other North American and European cities.
 
St. Lawrence Focused Area Guidelines now available
St. Lawrence The St. Lawrence Focused Area Guidelines will help to achieve the official plan goals for the city as they relate to the study area. The main objective of these guidelines is to maintain the character of the area. The character is defined largely by the collection of historic buildings which are found within the focused area of the St. lawrence Neighbourhood.
 
Draft Urban Design Guidelines for Sites with Drive-through Facilities
Drive-Thru These guidelines will help to achieve Official Plan goals for city beautification and the creation and enhancement of a comfortable, safe and vital public realm which encourages walking and transit use, as well as specific built form policies as they relate to drive-through uses.
